Amazing Madelyn Grace: A very happy birthday.

Hello! Today was a good day and tons of progress was made!

Overall, Mad’s birthday was the best that it could be given the circumstances! No one wants to spend their days in the hospital, especially their birthday. But it was full of good people and good laughs, so we made the most of it!

She’s done really well with all of her various therapies and is becoming a lot more herself. She’s been feeling very icky and nauseous the last few days and it’s finally starting to dwindle. She’s chatting and laughing and reminiscing on good moments she’s had, which is making all of this a lot easier. She is really looking forward to her anticipated discharge date and will stop at nothing to get out of the hospital as soon as February 11th rolls around.

The burn team removed her bandages from her face which made us all very happy to not have to deal with the dressings anymore. She is healing well and starting to look more and more like Madelyn. Her hand burns are looking good and her lungs sound good, and everything is headed in the right direction!

All of her hospital staff also made her day very special! She got a card from them and the cafeteria made her a special birthday lunch! She also enjoyed reading all of y’all’s birthday messages and seeing who has been checking in. I think that at the end of it all, she felt celebrated and valued. And that’s all you can really ask for when you’re in a situation like she is in.

She’s been interested about all of the different nurses and staff from Natchez Trace and Skyline who still check in to the blog to see how she’s doing. These are people who she doesn’t remember, but they remember her during a time of such uncertainty and fear for our family. It’s just amazing seeing everyone who loves her and has been cheering her on.

Today was good! It ended with a beautiful sunset which I believe God did on purpose as a special birthday gift; stepping out of those hospital doors and seeing the pink and purple sky made me so grateful that she will be walking out of that hospital so, very soon.

Thank you to everyone for all of your generosity and love towards Mad today. We truly have the best people in our corner, and it strengthens her and us every single day.

Psalm 9:1 - Under His wings, you will find refuge.
