Amazing Madelyn Grace: Christmas miracle.

Today might not have been the Christmas we asked for, but we sure are grateful for all that we have and the people that we have surrounding us and were able to celebrate as best we could!

Madelyn’s day was good; her heart rate has started to drop which has made us feel better. It has been in the 110s and 120s for the last couple of days and is now going into the lower 100s. Her heart rate and blood pressure both increase when they do her bronchial cleanse, but they give her some medicine to help with that. The doctors have told us that we should expect her to get pneumonia because of all of the irritation happening in her lungs, but that is something that is normal for patients like Mad.

Her lungs are starting to look clearer, but she still has some debris in the “branches” of the lungs that will have to clear up on their own because the doctor can’t get to them with the cleanse.

They also added in a feeding tube today to start getting her some nutrients. Her swelling is starting to go down, and she definitely is starting to look more like Madelyn which makes us all very happy.

They have started the process of slowly lowering her sedation to have her interact more with the doctors and nurses. She did not beat any of them up today, which I’m sure they are grateful for. Slow progress is still progress, and we are so happy to see any and all signs of interaction from her.

We have been very blessed by the work of the trauma doctor, burn doctor, respiratory therapists, nurses and everyone in between who have been taking very good care of Madelyn. Tri-Star Skyline’s TICU is always on top of telling us what is going on and the next steps with Mad’s treatments, even in a case like hers where every day is something new.

Today was a day for a craft project! The nurse told us that we can make posters to put in Madelyn’s room for the hospital staff to see and know her, as well as for when she wakes up to remind her of who she is! Thanks to Jennifer, Sidney and Rachel Hudgins for all of the supplies.

Overall, today was good, Madelyn is getting rest and her body is slowly starting to heal. We really mean it when we say that we are the most thankful people in the world. Even as we navigate this tragedy and get Madelyn healthy, we can not thank everyone enough for every prayer, every kind and encouraging word and just everything that this community has given to us.

Tomorrow is a new day, and we hope and pray for more good news and steps in the right direction!

Grace will prevail. Madelyn Grace will prevail.

Isaiah 41:10 - Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
