Amazing Madelyn Grace: The heart of a teacher.

Good morning! Today has been good so far, so here’s what’s going on with Mad:

She looks a lot better today! Her swelling is going down and her nurse changed her blue hospital gown to a yellow one, which gives her some color and radiance. Dad said she kind of looked like she was getting ready for her shift at McDonalds. Either way, she looks more and more like herself each day.

Her heart rate has hit double digits! Whoop whoop! And they have turned her sedation down very low and she is starting to interact more with the nurses. Her awesome night nurse Hunter (who dad mistakenly called “Winter” so we now refer to her as “Winter”) played her some country music and spoke to her about her students which got her to open her eyes.

Hunter said that she’s loved looking at the photos of Mad, and said the moment she saw her she knew she was a teacher even before she read her chart. Chase, her day nurse, said that she can tell from the photos that Madelyn is a very happy person. She’s got that big teacher smile and heart, and the staff have enjoyed getting to take a look at who Madelyn is.

Her lungs no longer have a lot of soot in them, except for the “branches” that will have to clear up on their own. For the most part, her lungs are slowly starting to improve. They’ve been very red and irritated from the bronchial cleansing, but they are starting to turn pink which is good. Pink is good!

The nurse said that her face burns look like they are healing nicely. We still are not sure when the next time they will go in and check out her burns and operate on them, but we know it will be sometime in the next few days.

Overall, we are very pleased with Mad’s improvements and each small step seems so big. From four days ago to today, she is on the up and up and we are so glad to see the progress. We are patiently waiting for the day when we can go in and talk to her and just see her eyes and hear her speak. Until then, we are grateful for every bit of good news!

Psalm 46:5 - God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved; God will help her when morning dawns.
