Amazing Madelyn Grace: Eye rolls galore.
Good morning and happy Monday! Last night and this morning has consisted of a lot of questions we can’t quite answer for Madelyn yet, but her agitation with us means she’s getting better!
She is awake and restless this morning as she’s weaning her off of the sedatives again. Mom said that sometime today they plan on sitting her up on the side of the bed like they did a few days ago.
She’s been coughing a lot and the nurses and doctor say that her lungs sound good and they plan on doing some more spontaneous breathing with support today. Mad was able to breath on her own with some support from the breathing tube for nine hours yesterday!
The skin grafts on her hands are scheduled for tomorrow, so prayers for a restful night and for the burn doctor and his team to take good care of Madelyn!
Today has been a particularly frustrating day for her. A lot of her frustration comes from us not being able to understand what she’s saying, and she’s asking to go home which is just another punch in the gut.
She’s still confused as to why she’s in the hospital and we’re doing everything we can to keep her as calm as possible until she can comprehend the entire situation we’re facing. She also keeps asking for her phone which is tough for two reasons; she can’t use her phone anyway because of the bandages on her hands and her phone was lost in the fire.
Each day as Madelyn gets better brings us closer to having to explain everything to her. I wish more than anything in this world that we could take her home and forget that this ever happened, but that’s just unrealistic. It did happen, and while mom, dad and I have had the chance to see and understand the severity of what’s happened to Madelyn and our home, it’s going to be another long and emotional process once we’re able to tell Madelyn about it.
At this moment, we’re just grateful for every bit of progress, even if that means eye rolls and anger.
