Amazing Madelyn Grace: Change of plans.

Today did not go like we planned, but we still have a few wins from the day.

To start, she did not end up getting skin graft surgeries today. They took her into the OR this afternoon and checked her wounds and prepared to do the grafts, but after seeing her hands and some of the areas on her face the burn doctor decided she needed some more time to heal before it could be done. He thought maybe by now she would be healed enough to do it, but some of her burns will need a few more days.

He said the ones on her feet have healed and that most of her face is healing well, but he is suggesting that there will be grafting on part of her forehead and maybe her nose along with the backs of her hands and fingers. Not necessarily the news we were anticipating, but we trust the doctor’s judgement on what is best for the state of Madelyn’s burns.

On another note, the trauma doctor went in and took a look at her lungs while in the OR and decided to not give her another tracheotomy. He didn’t get a lot of secretions out when he did the bronchial cleanse which is a good sign. He believes that her lungs, while they’re still not 100% healed quite yet, can handle Madelyn breathing on her own. They plan on removing the breathing tube sometime tomorrow. She will probably remain on oxygen for the next few days just in case. Big day tomorrow!

We’ll check back in again tomorrow about her lungs and how removing the breathing tube goes! Praying for smooth sailing and getting to finally talk to her again!
